Price development of selected energy commodities

The aim of the paper was to try to assess and map the price development of selected energy commodities - natural gas, oil and electricity from 2016 to 2024 and to find out how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the price increase. Correlation analysis was used to analyze the price trends - the resulting correlation coefficient showed that prices were interacting with each other during the selected period under study. The price trend data was extracted through content analysis and projected into graphs to better identify the trends of the last 8 years. During the period under study, the price of all commodities experienced price increases but also price decreases. The COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have become one of the main factors for the price development. The COVID-19 pandemic had a strong impact on the prices of energy commodities, with prices increasing during this period. The biggest limitation of the thesis was geopolitical events such as the COVID-19 and the mentioned war in Ukraine, which influenced the development of energy prices and thus the research and its results were affected.
